The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra premieres “A Brooklyn Symphony in Six Variations,” a short film directed and produced by musician and Emmy-nominated filmmaker, Susan Abdulezer, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Downtown Brooklyn as a fundraiser for the organization.

Weeks before the Winter Olympics in South Korea, Shiffrin scored a first-place finish so commanding, so seemingly effortless on the unforgivingly icy slope in the FIS World CACup slalom races in Killington, she brought the hometown crowd to deafening cheers.

The FIS Ski World Cup Giant Slalom race at Killington ended in light rain and tears for the local crowd as the US' Mikaela Shiffrin finished second behind Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany.

Each year the Brooklyn Public Library, in collaboration with the Brooklyn Eagles, recognizes outstanding works of nonfiction and fiction with the Brooklyn Literary Prize given in the fall. This year's shortlist includes a novel, a book-length poem, a collection of short stories, and three works of nonfiction.
