In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY
In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY
As part of the second In Scena! Italian Theatre Festival NY, Mauro Santopietro and Tiziano Panici from Italy will perform "R.a.e.P." on June 18 at 8:00 PM at Triskelion Arts, 118 North 11th Street, Brooklyn.
Presented by Kairos Italy Theater, the In Scena! festival is offering productions of contemporary Italian theater and associated events in all five boroughs from June 9 to 24, 2014.
"R.a.e.P." is an exploration of language: bodies and words, lights and sets that become the language of the stage. The theme of the show is safety in the workplace, explored through the story of a blue-collar worker, a casualty of an occupational fatality, and through that of a student, caught in the harness of a society that can never guarantee he'll be employed. "R.a.e.P." was a finalist for the 2011 Premio Scenario.
The piece is written by Mauro Santopietro and directed by Mauro Santopietro and Tiziano Panici. It will be performed in Italian and English.
Mauro Santopietro, an author and actor in TV and theatre, trained in acting with Anton Milenin, Saverio La Ruina, Nicolaj Karpov, Juri Alschitz and in writing with Vincenzo Cerami and Ruggero Cappuccio. On stage, he's been directed by Giles Smith, Luca Ronconi and Giancarlo Sepe, among others. In Rome, he collaborates with the Globe Theater, directed by Gigi Proietti, in association with the University of Rome La Sapienza. Since 2012, he has been managing the Teatro della Dodicesima in Rome.
Tiziano Panici, a young Roman director and performer, decided right away not to undertake academic studies, and instead to pursue his training through first-hand experience, exploring new paths and innovative stage languages, characterized by the interaction between actors’ voices and bodies and digital technologies and environments.
The play will also be performed June 16 at 8:00 PM at TheatreLab, 357 West 36th Street, Manhattan.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/680068 (for production at Triskelion Arts) or at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/680066 (for production at Theaterlab.)
